Established in 1946, Gaston Memorial Hospital opened on Highland Street in Gastonia, North Carolina as a memorial to all local soldiers who died in World War II. The present Court Drive facility opened in 1973. A not-for-profit general and acute care facility, Gaston Memorial Hospital serves Gaston and surrounding counties. The hospital offers 435 licensed beds and features all private rooms.

Emergency Services
Gaston Memorial Hospital offers expert, caring attention to patients with emergent medical conditions. The department is staffed by a team of board-certified physicians trained in emergency medicine. Nurses in the Emergency Department are specially-trained to assess and provide care for a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to medical, cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, pediatric and psychiatric. These nurses are also certified in advanced cardiac life support. Physicians from more than 30 medical specialties share call in our Emergency Services, one of the state's busiest. With over 40 beds, Emergency Services offers cardiac care rooms, trauma rooms, radiological services.
Gaston Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department works closely with G.E.M.S., Gaston Emergency Medical Services, and other area emergency transport systems to coordinate emergency care. Located just outside the Emergency Department is a helicopter pad for quick response to patients needing air transport to and from the hospital.
